Strategy

Strategy under pressure: five choices to make explicit

A practical guide to making trade-offs visible when every initiative claims urgency.

Start with the decision

Teams often begin with a framework, a system, or a workshop. A better beginning is the decision that has become difficult: who must make it, by when, using which evidence, and with what consequence.

Make trade-offs observable

Write the competing objectives in plain language. Ask what will receive less time, capital, or leadership attention if the proposed choice is made. If nothing gives, it is probably not yet a strategy.

Clarity is not certainty. It is an honest account of the choice, the evidence, and what would change our mind.

Build a short learning loop

Set the smallest meaningful evidence checkpoint. Name the owner and the decision that follows. This turns review from passive reporting into active governance.
