Ask why an implant is being considered

An implant can support a replacement tooth or another restoration, but it is not the only response to a missing tooth. A real assessment considers the remaining teeth and gums, bone, relevant health factors, cleaning and expectations. Ask why the proposed option fits those findings.

Compare a bridge, removable denture or monitoring a space where appropriate. Each has a different set of tradeoffs. A model can explain support and position, but it cannot establish that an individual has suitable anatomy or predict how treatment will progress.

Make the stages and uncertainty visible

A plan may involve preparation, placement, healing, a connection and a final restoration, with reviews between stages. Some stages may be combined or additional work may be needed. Ask what determines when the next step can happen and what would cause the plan to change.

Risks and limitations need an individual discussion, including possible failure, infection, problems with nearby structures and continuing restoration or gum concerns. A percentage copied from an advertisement does not describe your case. Ask what uncertainty remains after assessment and how it affects the decision.

Include the years after fitting

Cleaning access, review and maintenance remain important after the restoration is fitted. Ask for a demonstration suited to the design and a clear route for concerns such as looseness or discomfort. The restoration may need repair or replacement over time.

The estimate should separate assessment, treatment, restoration and follow-up, including what is excluded.
