Respond to the garment

Air a lightly worn pair when appropriate and deal with visible dirt rather than following a fixed number of wears. Hygiene, activity and climate all matter. If washing is needed, check the stated instructions, close fastenings and turn the garment inside out to reduce surface abrasion.

Expect colour to move

Some denim can transfer colour, particularly when new or damp. Take care around pale upholstery, bags and clothing. Washing separately at first may be appropriate when the label advises it. A dark shade is attractive, but it should not be treated as proof that the colour is permanently fixed.

Dry with the shape in mind

Smooth the waistband and legs before drying according to the label. Avoid assuming that heat is a harmless shortcut; it can affect dimensions and finishes. If you value a particular fit, compare the garment after washing with your earlier measurements rather than relying only on memory.

Notice early wear

Check pocket corners, hems and the areas that receive regular friction. A small repair may be easier before the surrounding fabric becomes thin. None of these habits establishes a measured environmental benefit on its own, but they can help you understand and maintain the clothing you already use.
