Compare the commitment, not just the monthly price
A clear equipment budget separates rent, purchase, refundable deposits and the timing of the first payment.

Keep the time horizon visible
A lower monthly price can be the more expensive decision when it commits you for longer than the work lasts. Decide how many months you need the equipment before comparing the rates. Circuit & Field uses four explicit example terms: one, three, six and twelve months.
The longer terms apply 95%, 90% and 80% of the base monthly rate respectively. The result is rounded up to a whole cent per unit per month. Multiplying that rounded amount by the number of months gives the rent commitment; the deposit is shown separately.
Work through a whole example
Suppose one device has a base monthly price of €19.99 and a €75.00 refundable deposit. At three months, 95% of €19.99 is €18.9905, so the displayed monthly amount rounds up to €19.00. The term rent is €57.00. The amount due at the start would be €94.00: the first €19.00 payment plus the €75.00 deposit.
For two of those devices, monthly rent is €38.00, the term rent is €114.00 and deposits total €150.00. The amount due at the start is €188.00, with €76.00 of rent remaining across the next two payments. Adding €188.00 to €114.00 would count the first rent payment twice.
Compare rental with ownership
An outright purchase has a separate one-time example price and no rental deposit. Rental payments do not reduce a later purchase price and do not transfer ownership at the end. Compare the whole planned period with buying, while remembering that this demonstration does not calculate resale value or real financing.
Accessories affect that comparison. A body-only camera plus a lens is a different list from a kit that already includes the same lens. Check contents first so you do not budget the same item twice. Apply the same term to alternative setups when you want a like-for-like comparison.
Understand a mixed list
A list can contain purchases and rentals with different terms. It can show the total commitment and the total due at the start, but it cannot honestly label one combined monthly amount as payable for twelve months when some rentals end sooner. Each line keeps its own term and remaining rent.
All prices here are tax-inclusive illustrations with no added shipping charge. Refundable deposits remain outside the nonrefundable commitment. The final sample enquiry is a record of your selections, not an invoice, credit agreement, reservation or request sent to a business.
Before you decide
- Same time horizon used for alternative setups
- Monthly rounding applied before multiplying
- Deposit separated from the commitment
- First payment counted only once
- Purchase and rental ownership distinguished
