Art and cultural collections

Condition information travels with the object.

Begin with the object record

The cultural-collection exercise uses fictional objects and makes the condition record central to the enquiry. Dimensions describe the packed piece, while unpacking responsibility and approved handling instructions remain distinct questions. This demo does not prescribe conservation or packing treatment.

Make the chain of custody readable

Record the parties expected to release, carry and receive the piece. A seal or signature alone does not establish its condition. The brief should identify when checks occur and who can stop a handover if the record differs.

Treat environment as a requirement

If a work requires a controlled temperature, humidity or vibration boundary, describe it for a qualified provider. Those loads fall outside the worksheet’s automatic timing scope. No climate-controlled vehicle, store or certification is claimed by the fictional brand.

Prepare the receiving space

A gallery may have public opening hours that differ from its safe receiving window. Confirm access, unpacking space and the person authorised to accept. Retain the return-packing question early, particularly when a crate must be stored until the loan ends.
