Think about the route
Consider how long you will be outside, whether there is shelter and what you will carry. A casual jacket should not be assumed to provide technical weather protection unless that performance is clearly specified and supported. For uncertain conditions, make the choice around the actual forecast and the exposure of the route.
Check the easy movements
Reach into the pockets, fasten the front and lift your arms. A light garment can still restrict movement if its shape is too close over another layer. Try it over the clothing you expect to wear, especially if the sleeves underneath have volume.
Pack without strain
Fold the layer loosely enough to protect fastenings and avoid forcing it into a space that pulls at seams. If it becomes damp, take it out when you arrive and allow it to dry according to the care instructions. Leaving moisture trapped in a bag is unhelpful for both the garment and its neighbours.
Make room for an ordinary use
The same layer may serve a short errand, a station platform or a cool room. These modest uses often matter more than an imagined adventure. Choose the fit and features that support the days you regularly have, then enjoy the occasional longer route when it comes.
