Rice, with its own place
A warm base can give the rest of a dish more freedom.

Rice supports several meals here, but it is never simply an unnamed extra. A main bowl includes its rice; a side has its own cooked portion; the vegetable table for two includes two servings. Those distinctions help a diner judge the meal before adding another dish. Plain rice also gives a stronger sauce somewhere to go without requiring every bite to carry the same intensity.
Ginger chicken, crisp tofu and trout take different routes around that base. The chicken brings a warm soy glaze, tofu carries a tamari pan sauce, and trout uses lemon and dill. A cool pickle can sit beside the rice until the diner decides how much sharpness belongs in the next bite. Keeping the components recognisable gives the bowl a little movement without turning it into several disconnected plates.
Rice becomes a different kind of warmth in the coconut pudding. There it is slowly softened with coconut milk and finished with roasted plum, rather than used beneath a savoury main. The shared ingredient connects the dishes, but the complete recipe gives each its own portion and dietary information.
