D 50 f1.6 gives the D-system photographer a larger maximum aperture than the bundled zooms. On a full-frame D32 body it provides a standard viewpoint; on an APS-C D24, D26 or D28 it frames more tightly from the same position. The fixed 50 mm focal length makes subject distance part of the composition decision.

Mount with the camera switched off and check focus on the intended eye or detail. At f/1.6, depth of field can be narrow, so a small subject movement matters. Use the hood to reduce stray light and protect the front edge, while keeping expectations separate from any impact-proofing claim.
