Shared container planning

Consolidate the freight without losing the package record.

Define the scope.

Shared-container planning combines separately documented consignments into a movement with consolidation and deconsolidation handovers. It suits an enquiry about smaller volumes only when the packing, handling tolerance and receiving requirements fit the proposed service.

The important unit of information is the packed piece. A vague total weight gives the receiving depot little help if a carton is missing or a pallet cannot be handled as expected. This example makes the piece count, external dimensions and condition record travel together. It does not promise a consolidation departure or a fixed charge.

Six decisions before the handover.

  1. 01

    Describe each packed type

Group only identical pieces when entering dimensions. Keep dissimilar packages on separate enquiry lines outside this single-line demo.

  2. 02

    Identify handling limits

State whether pieces are fragile, unstackable or need an orientation kept. Automated general-cargo timing is withheld for restricted categories.

  3. 03

    Plan the consolidation receipt

Agree what the origin receiving point checks and how it reports a discrepancy. Collection from a supplier is a separate boundary.

  4. 04

    Allow for assembly

The worksheet can add an explicit illustrative consolidation allowance. It is a planning buffer, not a statement about a real depot cut-off.

  5. 05

    Keep documents matched

The package list and consignment identifiers must remain consistent through shared movement. A container identifier alone does not identify the individual cargo.

  6. 06

    Arrange deconsolidation and delivery

Confirm how cargo becomes available and who can collect it. The sea leg ending does not mean every piece is ready for delivery.

What the brief makes visible.

Piece-level clarity

The enquiry records count and dimensions instead of an unexplained cubic-metre total.

Handling questions first

Fragility and stacking limits are visible before a service is assumed.

Explicit assembly time

Consolidation sits outside the sea movement allowance.

Separate release steps

The receiver can see that arrival and availability are different events.

Useful scope comparison

A shared-load enquiry can be compared with dedicated use without inventing rates.

A portable cargo brief

The local text file preserves the questions needed for a real provider.

Before you plan.

Is shared freight always cheaper?

No. Handling, minimum charges, volume, route and destination costs all affect a real quotation. This site provides no price comparison or saving claim.

How is volume measured?

Use the outside dimensions of the packed piece, including its pallet or protective packing. The worksheet multiplies identical-piece dimensions by count; it does not combine mixed lines.

Can fragile items use this plan?

The site can collect the handling questions, but its automated time preview is limited to the approved demo cargo categories. A real provider must confirm suitability and handling arrangements.

Is consolidation time part of the sea range?

No. The optional three-calendar-day example buffer appears as a separate line. It must not be described as a published departure frequency.

Does arrival mean collection is possible?

No. Deconsolidation, release and receiving-point instructions can still be outstanding. The preview lists those dependencies.

Can I reuse an FCL enquiry?

Use the same factual cargo list, but revise the handling and release scope. A dedicated-unit plan does not describe the additional package handovers in a consolidation.
